Constance Bacon -As a kid I made a mean mud pie. Since 2001 I have been throwing pots at Mudville
Pottery studio in Somerville. I use sgraffito techniques to make my high
fire stoneware more unique and interesting. I paint slip or underglaze
on the leather-hard clay, then carve through the painted areas to the base
clay to create my designs. The finished products are food safe, as well
as microwave and dishwasher safe.

Jess Barnett -Japanese painters, Odilon Redon, Francis Bacon, Christian imagery—these are
just a few of the influences that are apparent in my artwork. Using acrylic
paint, charcoal, rose petals, and household items such as paper towels,
Q-tips, and cotton balls, I try to create a world that is both ethereal
and stark. I mainly use red, black, and white as my primary colors.

Bren Bataclan - "In the summer of 2003, Bren Bataclan began his street art installation, “The
Smile Boston Project.” The project involves
the artist leaving his cartoon inspired paintings
for
people to take for “free” all over Boston (park
benches, trains, schools, malls, etc.). Attached
to each painting is a note saying, “This painting
is yours if you promise to smile at random
people more often.” Bren has since gone worldwide
with his “Smile Boston Project” and has
begun to exhibit his paintings across the country."

energy and simple elegance I see through my lens.

Madeleine Hall-Arber--As an anthropologist and potter I am delighted by the joy of creating whimsical
work in stoneware and porcelain. My endless
challenge is to make utilitarian pieces that
surprise or amuse. Often I offset the marvelous
symmetry of wheel-thrown work with hand-built
additions or sculpture that nevertheless retains
the elegance of the thrown piece while making
it unique. Sometimes it is just a face hiding
under a mug handle, other times a full-figure
balances on the edge of a pot. Enjoy!

Karen Kemp Etching is as much about the process as it is about the result: the
print. A design is etched into a zinc plate using nitric acid, a medium
that can be moody and temperamental. Ink is then rubbed into the lines,
dampened rag paper is placed on top of the inked plate, and then run
through a press. The design is then transferred to the paper. Each print
is hand-inked, and as a result no two are the same.

Teri MacMillan-Potters focused on hand thrown crystalline glazed porcelain. This
type of glaze is extremely
difficult to produce, and very few potters work with this technique. The results
are a combination of specific glaze formulation and firing techniques. Despite
meticulous attention to detail, the results are often unpredictable. The attempt
to control at high temperatures what so easily occurs in nature is a wonderful
challenge with vast possibilities.

Carol E. Moses I feel that my artwork constitutes the best part of myself. Making art nourishes
me and allows me to unravel my ideas. Making
art lets me know that life has good stuff in
it. It helps me experience my existence, and
my content. My greatest challenge while working
is not to think, not to work self-consciously.
When my creative process is free and in balance,
I am nourished and enriched by the work.
