Artist Bio
After nearly a decade of working with fiber, my artistic practice underwent a significant transformation with the arrival of my daughter, Ahmie. Her presence introduced a profound shift in my emotional landscape, challenging me to reconcile the demands of motherhood with my commitment to art. The structured time and precision that once characterized my creative process gave way to the unpredictable rhythms of daily life. In response to this change, I embraced collaboration as a means to continue my artistic expression. At five months old, Ahmie and I began creating abstract acrylic paintings together. These initial works, marked by spontaneity and freedom, became the foundation for a new direction in my practice. I then deconstructed these pieces, reassembling them using materials found within our home—cardboard, staples, vegetable netting, photographs, rusty bits—each element reflecting our shared environment and experiences. This approach has allowed me to explore the interplay between chaos and order, embracing the imperfections inherent in both life and art. The resulting works retain my appreciation for texture, layering, and color, while also embodying the dynamic and evolving nature of my journey as a mother and artist.
