Kirk aka Skunk Tegelaar

Bio for Website: Waltham Massachusetts artist Kirk Tegelaar, more commonly known as Skunk, has been creating whimsy from steel scraps since 1996, beginning with founding of the sci-fi fueled, friendly bicycle chopper gang SCUL, then evolving his family of endearing and emotional robots. With a very strong background and passion for art since he was a young pup in Maine, he learned to be ‘one with the metal’ at Seven Cycles, machining, welding, and finishing custom titanium, steel, and Ti/Carbon bicycle frames. Folks are welcome to come and visit his home studio by appointment.

Materials and Techniques: I'm a metal sculptor known as Skunk: For twenty years I have been honing my craft in transforming interesting and beautiful repurposed metal parts, working them with a hacksaw, a file, a sturdy vise, and a finely wielded TIG welder to create works that embody feelings of wonder, joy, and peace – each with the same mission – to endure for centuries as tireless reminders to hold dear all the important parts of being human.
