Sarah Walker
Bio for Website: Sarah Nicole Walker is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Boston area. Her art is characterized by a blend of figurative and nature-inspired themes, imbued with a deep sense of emotion and storytelling. Sarah draws inspiration from her ever-unfolding life story and the world around her. She uses art as a place to revisit her remarkable and quiet moments. The art process becomes a means to explore the complexities of living and her human experience. Sarah is currently working as an elementary art teacher and finds refreshing perspectives in art-making through her students. Color, style, poetry, stories, connection, child-like wonder, and adventure breathe life into Sarah’s need to create.
Materials and Techniques: I work with acrylic paint and use found fabric to paint on in place of a traditional canvas. I also create watercolor paintings, encaustic paintings, and paintings on paper. I will use mixed-media within my work, such as marker, pen, ink, and watercolor. I work in a layered approach, working on many paintings at once, adding and revisiting them in a cycle. My artwork is tied to my practice as an art educator, and I lean into mistake-making and a process-focused art practice. I enjoy experimenting with materials and exploring new ways to approach my paintings. I am an avid sketchbook keeper, and use this as drafts and guides for my final pieces.
