Victoria Wojick

Bio for Website: As a filmmaker rooted in editing and color grading, drawing with pencil and charcoal offers me a physical, tactile way to explore the same emotional contours I navigate on screen. Each portrait, be it of people, plants, insects, animals, vehicles, or familiar and current objects, is drawn from my own photographs, moments that linger long after they’re captured. Working primarily in black, white, and grays, I explore the weight of shadow and light and how texture and contrast shape perception, lessons I carry into every frame I cut and every tone I balance. In more recent work, I’ve started introducing pops of color to draw the eye and establish visual hierarchy within the monochrome. Drawing is not separate from my film work, but a companion to it, a study in how feeling lives within form, and how sometimes the absence of color can say everything, while color speaks in its own way.

Materials and Techniques: Working in graphite, charcoal, and colored pencil, I begin with light, measured marks, then gradually deepen the shading until the drawing reaches its full expression.
